Not every hero or heroine is featured in the media or on stage, applauded and crowned with a victory laurel wreath. Many of them - the EVERYDAY HEROES - are all around us, unseen, while they quietly work to make the world a better place.
Since the beginning of OUTsideIN, we've been blessed by the love and support of so many everyday heroes. They're friends, family, neighbors, volunteers, employees, customers...like we said, they're all around us! There's a long list of them written on our hearts, and we want to celebrate them by telling their stories here on this page.
Come back often and visit the Everyday Hero page...one day you may see your own face, your own story, featured here.
an OUTsideIN EVERYDAY HERO - Fall 2016
volunteer Stephanie Oszman
Almost a year ago, Stephanie came into our workshop to offer herself as a volunteer. She didn't know how to sew, but could we use help with anything else? Of course we could. Since then, Stephanie has learned how to sew, but she's done - and continues to do - a wide variety of tasks, working faithfully about 5-6 hours a day, Tuesday through Friday.
With the knowledge she has now, she can work independently, and it's wonderful to know that a job will get done when faithful Stephanie takes it on. She works well alone, as a mentor one-on-one, or as part of a group. That versatility is valuable in a setting where we juggle multiple projects, small or large, with or without tight time schedules (though it does seem that most projects have a tight time schedule).
Stephanie now handles our product inventory system, something complex and essential that could get out of control very quickly if we didn't keep up with it. If she runs out of work during a (rare) quiet moment in the workshop, she asks for more - no dawdling for this gal. She's quiet and unassuming, with a sense of humor that lights up her face with a smile that lights up the entire workshop.
When we announced plans to create a jewelry product line, Stephanie surprised us by saying quietly, "I can do that." Turns out that making jewelry is her hobby. Once again, God delivered to us exactly what we needed, when we needed it.. Stephanie is our jewelry guru now. When we have a question, Stephanie gives us an answer or helps us figure one out.
We're so grateful to Stephanie for a year of service, and we love the way she's become part of the OUTsideIN team. We have just one wish for her. It's a simple one: to believe in herself as strongly as we do. We love this sweet, talented lady: our OUTsideIN EVERYDAY HERO of Fall 2016.
